About Me

Once upon a time, many moons ago (twenty years, to be precise), I took my first steps into teaching; finally, after getting my BA Ed (Hons) in English and Education I would be able to share my love of learning with young people.

I had a vision!

A vision of students who fell in love with reading and writing, their creative voices shining bright.

Children whose confidence soared as they gained skills that I had helped them build. I had a vision of using drama and the arts to bring literacy to life.

… And it was amazing!

But, over time I began to realise that although I loved my job, my colleagues and the children I worked with, the system I worked within wasn’t made to support my dream. The constraints of the classroom meant that I could never fully focus on the things I really wanted to.

I began to dream of smaller groups, of mixed ages, of more freedom. I began to research progressive educational settings and home education … And I knew what I needed to do.

I stepped out of the classroom and Lighting Up Literature was born!

So, here I am!

Working with home educated children.

… And I LOVE it.

My husband and I have three children, aged eight, three and a baby and they have joined me on this adventure. I get to give them the most wonderful childhood, filled with magical moments, joyful learning, friends of all ages and lots of fun!
